Your privacy.
How Blather handles your player identity, game records, and shared moments.
Your player identity
You can play without creating a traditional account. We keep a random player identifier in a secure session cookie so your device can reconnect to your room and access your own records. A nickname identifies you to other players; matching someone’s nickname does not give access to their identity.
You can generate a recovery code to reconnect your identity on another device. Keep it private. We store a protected representation of this code, and creating a new code replaces the previous one.
What a game saves
We save the players, scores, published clues, guesses, references, and reveals from your game. Other players see the public parts of your current room. Your unpublished drafts and secret answers are kept private during play.
Your personal records remain available for 180 days after qualifying activity, such as opening that record. A saved moment is retained for one year from its first save. Viewing it, removing it, or saving it again does not reset that year.
Crews and public challenges
Joining a crew is optional. Members see the moments they have permission to access. New members see moments shared after they join; original participants can also see the crew’s founding game. Leaving removes crew access, while your own records and valid personal saves keep their original expiry dates.
Shared crew moments remain for 180 days; a member’s first valid save extends the shared period to 180 days after that save. An inactive crew becomes read-only after 180 days and can be restored by a member without restoring expired moments.
Creating a challenge makes that question’s public replay available to anyone holding the link. The answer stays hidden until the visitor solves or reveals it. Public challenge links expire one year after publication. Downloaded or externally shared files may remain with their recipients.
Reminders and device features
Adding Blather to your home screen does not enable notifications. You choose crew-invitation reminders separately from a daily round-up of new questions in your crews’ saved subjects and new crew moments. Push delivery requires a browser subscription associated with your identity and supported device. You can turn reminders off in settings.
Video creation uses your chosen game moments. You choose what to include and whether to show nicknames before saving or sharing a clip. We do not access your contacts or post to your social accounts on your behalf.
Product analytics
We collect basic usage events, such as visits, game actions, and link copies, download requests, and system sharing outcomes, to understand and improve the experience. Referral information may tell us how a visit reached the site. These events do not include private drafts, recovery codes, or the contents of guess messages.
